Tips for Attracting Children’s Attention from the Beginning of Learning

The beginning of the lesson is the time when an educator must be able to steal the attention of their students. Because if from the beginning of the lesson an educator is able to steal the attention of his students, then he will be easier in providing subject matter. There are many ways that an educator can do. Through this article, I, Sis Zepe, want to share experiences about how to attract students’ attention so they can focus on the beginning of the lesson.

  1. Short funny story

Children are usually very fond of this activity. This activity is storytelling. At the beginning of the lesson, we can give stories to children. It is highly recommended if the fairy tale material provided is in accordance with the theme of learning that day. If necessary, the story given is humorous or funny, so the children can laugh and be happy. This will also spur their enthusiasm in attending the lesson.

  1. The importance of eye contact

At the beginning of the lesson, we can invite students to sing together or give stories. But there is one thing that is not less important, namely eye contact. When having a conversation, storytelling, or singing, we need to invite children to make eye contact. Try to make eye contact with each child, so they feel cared for. When children feel cared for, they will give their attention to us when teaching.

  1. Set sound

A person’s voice will sound more attractive if he is able to adjust the volume, speech intonation, and facial expression. It will be even more interesting if you have an attractive and energetic gesture . Imagine that we are a reliable motivator while in front of the class, so that we will also look enthusiastic and able to encourage every child we teach.

  1. Regulate emotions

Sometimes some of the children we teach will look busy themselves, for example by chatting with friends on the bench next to them, playing pencils themselves, and doing other activities. As educators we need to be smart in managing emotions. Do not just because of resentment for some children makes your teaching spirit decrease or even seems less eager. In addition to emotional control skills, there are special tips for learning to be interesting and fun. Let’s see!

  1. Small surprises

There are many surprises that can give to students without having to shout with anger. Small surprises can be done by clapping three times, saying “Doooor!”, Or by pointing at something while pretending to be surprised (for example by saying “See an elephant flying”) in a loud voice.

  1. Inviting children to do simple exercises

There are times when children look less excited. Usually this happens in the morning, where some children may still look lazy, sleepy, and others. In order for children to be more excited, we can give simple exercises to children. For example by inviting them to turn their heads, rotate their bodies, and other body movements. Simple gymnastics can also be done with musical accompaniment. In the world of PAUD, we know it as motion and song. Follow these tips so that motion and song become safe, fun, and able to arouse children’s learning spirit.

There are still many ways that children can focus on learning activities. It is highly recommended that educators also use technology or offer their talents to be used as attractive teaching aids. Usually attractive props will be able to attract the attention of serious students to study.
